MY WORK
WELCOME!
Hi, I'm Denby. I make digital stories. Films, interactive stories, VR experiences, multimedia features, and other kinds of immersive narratives. I'm also a practice-based researcher and a lecturer at Swinburne University of Technology in Melbourne, Australia.

My work is about navigating a course through controversial public conversations, and creating digital experiences that bring us together. My research combines Open Space New Media Documentary approaches with science and technology studies and poststructuralist theory.

I teach digital screen production techniques that focus on innovation and the affordances of technology. My work is underpinned by a deep love for storytelling, and sprinkled with wild enthusiasm for emerging technologies.
I live and work on the unceded lands of the Wurundjeri people of the Kulin nation.

UNVACCINATED
2023
"Unvaccinated" is a short documentary production evolving out of my PhD research. I talk to people who have chosen not to have a Covid-19 vaccination, to hear about their relationship to mainstream news, and how their lives on social media have shaped their decisions.

TREKKING THE ANNAPURNA CIRCUIT
2016

"Trekking the Annapurna Circuit" was published by the Sydney Morning Herald in 2016 to widespread acclaim. It documents my six-week journey around one of the most popular treks in Nepal, in the wake of the 2015 earthquake. Nine multimedia stories, featuring text, stills and video, are situated on a navigable 3-D map.
